Metallurgical and Manufacturing Leadership
Metallurgy is at the heart of ESCO Corporation’s leadership in steel technology. ESCO pioneered many foundry practices, casting techniques and steel alloys all industry standards today. ESCO was the world’s first foundry to use Argon-Oxygen Decarburization (AOD), an advanced steel purifying process. Using the AOD process improves mechanical properties and reduces defects and creates cutterheads with significantly improved strength and durability.
ESCO cast steel alloys are matched to each job. The alloys used in ESCO cutterheads have the right balance of toughness and hardness to ensure maximum wear life and impact resistance.
ESCO design facilities are computer linked to ESCO manufacturing facilities, and the ESCO CAD system is integrated with a sophisticated CAM (Computer Aided Manufacturing) system. ESCO computer design stations transfer customer specifications directly to pattern making facilities, ensuring that cutterheads are manufactured precisely as designed.
